PNG offers some of the world's best birding. From the lowland rainforests of Kiunga to the highland heaths of the Tari Gap and the savannah lands around Port Moresby, with the right itinerary even the shorter trips here can usually find about 20 species of birds of paradise. New Guinea and off-shore islands as whole have over 400 endemics, the single greatest concentration on earth. Many birds are endemic to individual islands or archipelagoes and a lot of travel is need to see them all. New Guinea is often subdivided into 3 distinct area for birding: Indonesian Papua, the Papua New Guinea mainland and the Papua New Guinea Islands.

We were the first bird tour company to regularly visit Bougainville when it reopened, and we are actively working with local people there to make it more accessible to birders. In 2011 we were the first bird group to stay at Philip's guest house situated in the burnt out shell of the men's quarters at Panguna mine.

It is hard birding, as many species are shy and low-density, but the rewards are immense. A selection of our most popular itineraries are shown below. While we offer tours for hard core birders we also have itineraries for more general naturalists, people with particular interests and those who wish to combine birding with a look at the fascinating culture of this amazing land. Our Birds and Culture tours which are timed to coincide with one of the countries major cultural events such as the Mt Hagen Show are proving very popular. Please enquire about specialist tours or those going off the beaten track. While you will undoubtedly get a bigger bird list using one of our guides we also devise itineraries for individuals and groups of independent travellers using local guides through our trip planning service.

We offer a number of itineraries of varying lengths to destinations throughout the country. Our "Taste of New Guinea" tours are designed to be easily slotted together to make more comprehensive itineraries. If you do not see an itinerary you like, we are happy to personalise one for you based on your wish list, time available and finances. We can also create itineraries to destinations off the beaten track where bird tours do not normally go.
